NASA Engine Design
In This Activity I used the NASA software engine simulator to design a turbine engine to meet several design constraints. (550 mph speed, 35000 ft altitude)
Turbo Fan
Turbo Fans are just like regular turbine engines except the area near the fan is larger. This allows cooler air around the engine, making it quieter than other jet engines. This is most practical for Airliners as the noise wont bother passengers as much
Parts of the Turbo Fan, you can see where the cooler air passes over
Tests
I selected the Turbo Fan. After putting in the speed altitude and other flight conditions/constraints I did 9 tests and 1 control. The control is yellow the green is best and red is worst. This is based on the Thrust-Weight ratio.
